On <time datetime="2026-06-03">June 3, 2026</time>, Google added dedicated generative AI performance reports to Search Console, giving site owners impressions data from AI Overviews and AI Mode. No click data. UK-first rollout. The reports cover only Google's AI features, leaving ChatGPT (1 billion monthly active users), Perplexity (100 million+), Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, You.com, and Brave entirely dark. AI-referred traffic converts at 14.2% versus Google organic's 2.8%, according to Semrush's 2026 AI SEO statistics. What you can see in Search Console covers roughly one-fifth of where your buyers research vendors with AI.

What did Google add to Search Console on June 3, 2026?#
Google launched dedicated generative AI performance reports in Search Console on June 3, 2026, showing how often pages from your site appear inside AI Overviews and AI Mode in Google Search and Discover. According to the Google Search Central blog, the reports are available to a subset of UK website owners during the initial rollout, with a global expansion planned but not yet dated.
The reports give you four dimensions of measurement: which of your pages appeared in AI features, which countries your AI feature impressions come from, which device types users were on, and date-range performance with hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly granularity.
There's no click data in the current version. Google hasn't announced a timeline for adding it.
The launch gives website owners an official metric for AI feature visibility inside Google for the first time. Before June 3, tracking AI Overview presence required third-party tools, manual spot-checking, or server log analysis. Now site owners have a trend line. The question is what that trend line doesn't show.

Why does impressions-only data leave brands measuring the wrong thing?#
Impressions without clicks leaves brands unable to connect AI feature presence to traffic or revenue. Brands cited inside an AI Overview see a 35% higher organic click-through rate on the same query versus standard organic results, and the same citation drives a 91% lift in paid ad click-through rate, according to analysis from Marketingcode.com published in June 2026. Without click data, brands can't confirm whether AI Overviews impressions produce outcomes.
The measurement gap goes deeper than missing clicks. The reports track performance inside Google's AI features only. ChatGPT crossed 1 billion monthly active app users in May 2026, the fastest app in history to reach that milestone, according to Sensor Tower estimates reported by Reuters on June 12, 2026. Perplexity passed 100 million monthly active users across all its products as of April 2026, according to the company's own disclosures.
Google Search Console says nothing about ChatGPT. Google Search Console says nothing about Perplexity.
A brand can show strong AI Overviews impressions in GSC and still be invisible to buyers using ChatGPT and Perplexity to research vendors in its category. These signals don't correlate. Ahrefs' analysis of 863,000 keyword SERPs found that only 38% of AI Overview citations come from pages ranking in the top 10, down from 76% a year prior. The pages Google's AI chooses to cite don't reliably match what ChatGPT or Perplexity choose to cite.

Which AI engines does Google Search Console not cover?#
Google Search Console covers only Google's generative AI features: AI Overviews and AI Mode in Google Search, and generative features in Google Discover. The other 8 platforms brands need to monitor are not covered.
The gap includes:
ChatGPT (OpenAI) — 1 billion monthly active app users as of May 2026, per Sensor Tower
Perplexity — 100 million+ monthly active users across all products as of April 2026
Claude (Anthropic) — the highest AI platform conversion rate at 16.8%, per Semrush 2026 data
Microsoft Copilot — integrated into Bing, Microsoft 365, and Edge; pulls from the Bing index
Grok (xAI) — X's integrated AI search engine, available to X Premium subscribers
DeepSeek — growing citation volume in B2B and developer categories
You.com — citation-based search with sourced answers and a built-in AI agent layer
Brave Search — privacy-first AI search with an independent index, not dependent on Google or Bing
44% of B2B SaaS companies are invisible on ChatGPT and Perplexity even when their primary keyword ranks on Google, according to a 2026 diagnostic study cited by Nicodigital.com. The AI search gap exists because these platforms retrieve and cite content using different mechanisms from Google's ranking algorithm.
Google rankings and AI citations share some inputs: quality content, external links, technical markup. They optimize for different outputs. A brand's GSC AI Overviews impressions trending up says nothing about its citation rate on the 8 platforms outside Google's ecosystem.
What AI visibility metrics actually matter for brand measurement?#
Citation frequency, citation prominence, URL attribution rate, and cross-engine consistency are the four metrics that predict brand presence in AI-generated answers. These are the components of BrandCited's composite AI visibility index, which runs from 0 to 100.
Citation frequency measures the share of relevant probe queries on which your brand appears in the AI-generated answer. BrandCited runs queries across 9 engines per brand per 30-day window. Google Search Console impressions show one narrow slice of this: how often Google's AI features include your pages. What they don't show is how often your brand name appears in the answer text.

See how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and 4 other AI platforms mention your brand.
Citation prominence measures how early in an AI response your brand appears. A citation in the first 50 words of a 300-word answer produces different conversion behavior than one in the final paragraph. Claude has a conversion rate of 16.8% from AI-referred traffic, the highest of any platform tracked by Semrush in 2026. That number reflects both citation frequency and prominence inside Claude's answer format.
Cross-engine consistency — how evenly your citations distribute across all 9 engines — is the metric brands miss most. A brand cited in Google AI Mode but absent from ChatGPT and Perplexity has a coverage gap that GSC will never surface. Your Google AI Overviews impressions could trend upward while your overall AI visibility score falls, if the gains concentrate on one platform.
BrandCited's composite score weights all four components: citation frequency (40%), citation prominence (30%), URL attribution rate (20%), and cross-engine consistency (10%). The top-quartile threshold across BrandCited's dataset of 2,000+ tracked brands is a composite score of 70 out of 100. The median score is 38.
How does BrandCited audit AI visibility across all 9 engines?#
BrandCited is an AI brand visibility platform that monitors citation frequency, prominence, and attribution rate across 9 engines every 30 days and scores each brand on a composite index from 0 to 100. The platform covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, You.com, and Brave Search — the 8 platforms Google Search Console doesn't track — plus Google's AI features.
BrandCited's audit checks the signals AI engines use to decide whether to cite a brand. Schema markup completeness: Article, FAQPage, and Organization schema are checked against the citation requirements of each engine. Content extractability: BrandCited checks whether your H2 sections open with direct, citable answers rather than preamble paragraphs, because 78% of passages cited verbatim by AI engines open with a subject-verb-object sentence containing a specific number or named entity. Entity clarity: whether your brand is defined consistently across your site with specific facts an AI model can attribute.
BrandCited's scan data across 1,247 brands shows that sites with complete FAQ schema are cited 40% more often in Perplexity answers than comparable sites without it. Sites with missing Organization schema score an average of 18 points lower on the cross-engine consistency component because AI engines can't confirm the brand as a distinct entity in their knowledge graphs.
The BrandCited free scan runs 30+ checks across your site and returns a prioritized list of defects ranked by their impact on citation rate. It takes 30 seconds. No signup required.

ChatGPT milestone: ChatGPT crossed 1 billion monthly active app users in May 2026, making it the fastest app in history to reach that scale. TikTok took six years to reach 1 billion monthly app users by comparison. (Reuters/CNBC)
GEO research: Brandlight's June 2026 benchmarking found the overlap between top-10 Google organic results and AI-cited sources fell from 70% to below 20% in 12 months. AI engines are drawing from a different pool of sources than Google's organic index. (GEO News, June 2026)
Before you check your AI Overviews impressions in Search Console, run a BrandCited scan at brandcited.ai. The GSC data covers roughly one-fifth of where your buyers research vendors with AI. The scan takes 30 seconds and shows your citation rate across all 9 engines, with every defect ranked by impact.
Does Google Search Console track visibility in ChatGPT?
Google Search Console tracks visibility only inside Google's own generative AI features: AI Overviews and AI Mode in Google Search, and generative features in Google Discover. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Copilot, You.com, and Brave Search are not covered. To track visibility across all major AI platforms, brands need a dedicated tool like BrandCited, which monitors 9 engines and returns a composite score per brand.
What data do the new Google Search Console AI reports include?
The Search Console generative AI performance reports include impressions — how often your pages appeared in AI Overviews or AI Mode — broken down by page URL, country, device type, and date. Click data is not included in the initial version. Google launched the reports to UK website owners first on June 3, 2026, with a broader rollout date not yet announced.
Why is my brand invisible on ChatGPT but ranking on Google?
Google ranks pages based on relevance, authority, and user experience signals. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude cite brands based on training data density, content extractability, schema markup completeness, and entity clarity. A brand can hold a top-5 Google ranking and score zero on AI citations if its content is structured for search crawlers but not for AI extraction. 44% of B2B SaaS companies have this exact gap, according to a 2026 diagnostic study.
How does a brand improve its AI visibility across all 9 platforms?
BrandCited's 90-day data from 23 brands shows an average composite score gain of 28 points for brands that complete three phases: fix schema defects in the first 30 days, publish 4 new pillar articles with direct-answer H2 structures in days 31 to 60, and build 10 or more new external citations in days 61 to 90. Retrieval-augmented engines like Perplexity reflect new content within 7 to 21 days, so structural fixes to existing content produce the fastest results.
What is the difference between AI Overviews and AI Mode in Google Search?
AI Overviews are the AI-generated summaries that appear at the top of certain Google search results, triggered when Google determines a generated answer is useful. AI Mode is a conversational search experience inside Google that allows follow-up questions. Both are tracked in the new Search Console generative AI performance reports. AI Mode became available across desktop and mobile worldwide in June 2026 as part of Google's I/O 2026 announcements.
